Olympic Stars Headline Longhorn Swim Camps

AUSTIN, Texas, July 22. AFTER six one-week sessions between May and July, the 2006 Longhorn Swim Camps finished up another overwhelmingly successful season. One of the biggest highlights of this year’s camp was its featured instructors UT alumni and U.S. Olympians Brendan Hansen, Josh Davis, Ian Crocker, Neil Walker and Aaron Peirsol. Each day campers went through three training sessions and received direct stroke instruction from a U.S. Olympic Star.

On Mondays, campers were treated to a freestyle practice led by 2000 and 2004 USA Olympic Team member Walker. Tuesdays featured the fastest 100-meter flyer in the world, Crocker (2000 and 2004 USA Olympic Team). Wednesdays they learned breaststroke tips from current 100- and 200-meter world record holder Hansen (2004 USA Olympic Team). On Thursdays, the star coach was 100- and 200-meter world record holder Aaron Peirsol (2000 and 2004 USA Olympic Team). Finally, on Friday mornings the campers were treated to a workout led by 1996 and 2000 Olympian Josh Davis.

Over 150 young swimmers per week were also treated to daily coaching by multiple-time US Olympic Men’s Swimming Coach and nine-time NCAA Championship team coach Eddie Reese and newly-named Head UT Women’s Coach Kim Brackin (who, as the former Associate Women’s Head Coach at Auburn University, assisted in the winning of seven NCAA championships).

The Longhorns Swim Camp began in 1978, and since then has had remarkable success in giving its campers an unforgettable experience. This year was no exception as each camper got to meet and be coached by many of the current stars of today. The Camp has sold out for three years in a row.
