TIANJIN, April 19. THE oldest men's record in the Chinese record book fell today on the fifth day of competition at the Chinese Nationals and World Championship Trials in Tianjin.
Chen Zuo, 21, a gold medalist at the Asian Games in South Korea last Fall, clocked 50.44 seconds for the 100 meter freestyle, breaking the former record of 50.51 set in 1989 by Chen Jianqiang. Huang Shaohua was second in 50.58.
Hometown hero Wang Zheng won the men's 200m breaststroke in 2:17,46, out-touching Chang Hao, 2:17.54.
In the women's events, Cui Li took the 200 fly in 2:10.55, almost a second ahead of Zhang Zhiyi (2:11.54).
Gao Chang and Hua Jing tied for the gild in the 50 back in 29.12, leaving favorite Li Hui with the bronze.
Shanghai took the 800 free relay in 8:03.72, just ahead of Zhejiang in 8:04.17.
