Old Dominion Swimming Claims 147-140 Win Against Campbell

NORFOLK – Old Dominion swimming upended Campbell, 147-140, on Saturday.

Old Dominion University women’s swimming won 10-of-14 events en route to a 147-104 victory over Campbell Saturday afternoon at the JC Scrap Chandler pool.

The Lady Monarchs started the day with a win in the 200 medley relay as Colleen VandePoel, Julia Vido, MacKenzie Payment and Stephanie Norris put together a winning time of 1:47.62.

Yesim Giresunlu earned ODU’s first individual win in the 1000 free with a time of 10:35.04 while Stephanie Norris won the 200 free in a time of 1:54.74.

Vido grabbed the first of her two wins in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 30.58 while also winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.76.

VandePoel also had two wins, notching victories in the 50 and 100 backstroke.

Payment earned a win in the 100 fly with a time of 57.39 while Morgan Johnson won the 50 free in 24.55 and Norris was a winner in the 100 free with a time of 52.85.

Old Dominion won the meet’s first 10 events to defeat visiting Campbell 147-104 Saturday.

The Monarchs improved to 3-4 on the season while Campbell fell to 4-5 in dual meet competition.

Michelle Case’s 57.94 time in the 100 fly was good for second in Saturday’s sixth event, the Camels’ first rubber-up finish on the day since the meet-opening 200 medley relay (1:50.92).

Campbell bounced back late, led by Geena Squartino (5:11.07, 500 free), Michelle Case (26.49, 50 fly) and Lily Tang (2:08.39, 200 IM). Campbell also turned in a 3:39.68 in the 400 freestyle relay to close the contest.

The Camels will finish out the first half of the season next week, traveling to the Georgia Tech Invitational Nov. 20-22.
