Ohio University Hosts Intrasquad Meet to Kick Off Season

ATHENS, Ohio, October 15. OHIO Swimming and Diving kicked off the 2012-13 season with its annual intrasquad meet this weekend. The Green Team, coached by senior Deidre Geroni, edged the White Team by two points, 53-51.

“This was a great start to the 2012-13 campaign,” said Head Coach Greg Werner. “Many of our student-athletes turned in season bests while a few recorded career-best times.”

The White Team got off to a strong start, with Addison Ferguson, Anastasia Bocharnikova, Caroline Meyer and Katey Brooks picking up a win in the 200 Medley Relay.

Kristin Capcik and Stephanie Gyurke put the Green Team on the board in the next two events, taking the top spots in Three-Meter Diving and the 200 Freestyle, respectively.

A good takeaway from the event was how balanced the teams were as they battled back and forth before Green emerged a winner.

“I'm very excited for the prospects of this season,” Werner added. “With 12 people winning events in the intrasquad meet, we already have a great blend of returning and new talent.”

Ohio will next be in action against Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Bobcats and Eagles will begin competition at the Ohio University Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.

“While we started well, we will have to be much better to compete with a very talented and well-coached Eastern Michigan squad on Oct. 27,” Werner said.
