Ohio Northern vs. Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio, January 20. OHIO Northern University gave the Lords swimming and diving team all it could handle inside the Kenyon College Aquatic Center Friday night. When the wake settled in the pool, Kenyon absorbed the Polar Bears' best shots and triumphed by a narrow 133-110 margin.

Senior Curtis Ramsey (Wilmington, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) was integral to the Lords' ability to ice the Polar Bears. Ramsey had a hand in three event wins including the 50- (21.06) and 100-yard (46.64) freestyles and as a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:26.15).

The other relay, the 200-yard medley relay (1:33.24), opened the evening with Kenyon's first win and that proved to be a big springboard with three of the squad's members going on to additional victories. Junior Jon Rooker (Forest Grove, OR/Forest Grove) claimed the 100-yard backstroke (52.57), freshman Colton Spark (Greenville, SC/Greenville Technical Charter) took first place in the 200-yard individual medley (1:56.15), and sophomore Frank Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) was part of the 200 free relay.

Sophomore Andrew Chevalier (Golden, CO/home schooled) accounted for the Lords other victory on the night. Chevalier stopped the clock at 1:44.48 in the 200-yard freestyle and was first to the wall by more than three seconds.

The Kenyon men, who sent half of their squad to Oakland University's quad meet this weekend, will remain split on Saturday. The Lords who stayed in Gambier will make the short trip to Ohio Wesleyan University for a dual meet against the Battling Bishops at 1 p.m.

The weather outside Friday night was befitting a Polar Bear, but the Ladies swimming and diving team made sure the climate inside the Kenyon College Aquatic Center was more to their liking. The Kenyon women turned up the heat on visiting Ohio Northern University and posted a convincing 151-80 dual meet victory.
With a steady snowfall blanketing Gambier, the Ladies (4-3) swept all of the evening's swimming events in the comfort of their home pool. To do so, Kenyon looked to its senior class to set the tone at the meet.

Alisa Vereshchagin (Solon, OH/Solon) provided three of the Ladies' event wins. Vereshchagin was a member of the 200-yard medley relay, which opened the night with a winning time of 1:48.51. The senior also finished atop the scoreboard in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.63) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.56).

Meghan Quinn (Lighthouse Point, FL/Pine Crest) joined her classmate for the 200 medley relay, then took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle by stopping the clock at 24.45. She matched Vereshchagin's win tally in the final swim of the night in which she took the lead leg for Kenyon's victorious 200-yard freestyle relay (1:38.70).

Two more seniors teamed up with Quinn on the 200 free relay after successful solo efforts. Kellyn Caldwell (Gambier, OH/Mount Vernon) was first to the wall in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.18) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.04) with Kelly Wahl (San Diego, CA/La Jolla) claiming the 100-yard freestyle at 55.34.

Dominique Chevalier (Golden, CO/home schooled) was the final senior Lady to record a victory. She did so in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:14.37 effort.

Kenyon didn't rely solely on its eldest members, though, as a pair of freshmen made notable contributions. Jourdan Cline (Charlotte, NC/Charlotte Country Day) swam for both of the winning relays while Hannah Cooper (Houston, TX/Memorial) took a leg on the 200 medley squad and finished first in the 100-yard butterfly (59.24).
