CANTON, Ohio, March 2. UPPER Arlington and St. Xavier walked away with state titles at the Ohio Division 1 High School State Championships. On the girls' side, Upper Arlington tallied 295 points for first followed by Columbus Bishop Watterson (186) and Cincinnati Turpin (149). The St. Xavier boys won with 228 points while Toledo St. Francis De Sales took second (218) and Upper Arlington placed third (187).
Olentangy Liberty's Kellie Carmendy won the diving competition (418.65). Other top finishers include Haleigh Bartlett (Cuyahoga Falls) (411.75) and Jordan Russell (Upper Arlington) (406.20).
Kristyn Fulcher Nicole Wagner, Katie VanFossen, and Lauren Comer (Upper Arlington) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.23.
Kate McNeilis (Dublin Scioto) had individual wins in the 200 freestyle (1:49.53) and the 100 backstroke (54.53).
Bishop Watterson's Gracie Finnegan was a dual event winner in the 50 (23.20) and 100 (50.06) freestyles. She teamed up with Camey Rabold, Michele Rielly and Samantha Schuttinger for wins in the 200 (1:35.08) and 400 (3:27.09) freestyle relays.
Other top finishers include Abby Galbreath (Fairmont) in the 200 IM (2:03.58), Maddie Martin (Pickerington Central) in the 100 butterfly (54.85), Molly Hazelbaker (Turpin) in the 500 freestyle (4:52.98), and Taylor Vargo (Sandusky) in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.61).
Toledo St. Francis De Sales won two of three relays. Rowan Williams, Phil Barone, Nick Carmony, and Dan DiSalle won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:34.60.
Solon's Michael Kreft won the diving competition with a score of 472.20. Liam McLaughlin (Medina) took second (444.40) and Troy Richert (North Royalton) placed third (432.20).
Steven Zimmerman (Little Miami) won the 200 IM (1:51.54) and the 100 backstroke (49.25).
North Canton Hoover won the 200 freestyle relay (1:25.04). Tony Ventosa, Carl Brubach, Thomas Tedrow, and Tom Vretas contributed to the win.
Other first-place finishers include Jacob Schuster (Dublin Scioto) in the 200 freestyle (1:38.70), Brandon Williams (Loveland) in the 50 freestyle (21.14), Nick Schuttinger (Westerville) in the 100 butterfly (48.74), John Spangler (Upper Arlington) in the 100 freestyle (45.66), Alex Miller (St. Xavier) in the 500 freestyle (4:29.61), and Andrew Bartley (Firestone) in the 100 breaststroke (56.63).
Williams, Michael DiSalle, Dan Miller, and D. DiSalle closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:06.09).
