O’Dell Named Assistant Coach at American University

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 20. AS the collegiate season approaches, another school has announced an assistant-coaching hiring. American University, based in the nation’s capital, has announced the appointment of Kathleen O’Dell to head assistant coach. The selection was announced by head coach Mark Davin. O’Dell was most recently at the University of Miami.

O’Dell’s coaching career also includes stints at Lehigh University and Bucknell University. At Bucknell, O’Dell worked with the stroke and middle-distance swimmers and also served as the program’s recruiting coordinator. O’Dell is also familiar with a number of collegiate camps, as she’s worked summer sessions at Auburn, Harvard and Lehigh.

During her competitive days at Bloomsburg University, O’Dell earned All-American status on two occasions and was an NCAA Championships qualifier at the Division II level. O’Dell graduated from Bloomsburg in 1999 and received her Master’s degree in secondary education from Lehigh in 2001.

"Obviously we're really happy with her joining the staff," Davin said. "Her collegiate coaching as well as her work at multiple camps with numerous world class athletes puts her head and shoulders above anyone we've ever had at the assistant position. We expect her to make an immediate impact on our program."
