Oakland Sweeps Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio, November 3. ALEX Aceino, Vanessza Balogh. Sandra Czerska, Amr el Sayed, Christine Seiple, Karin Tomeckova and Jordan Welling each won multiple events as the Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up victories over Wright State Saturday afternoon at the WSU Natatorium. The men won with a score of 178.5-109.5 and the women won 164-122.

“Long trips like this are tough and I think everyone handled themselves well and raced well,” said head coach Pete Hovland. “It was not about times today and more about racing and getting your hand on the wall first and they did that exceptionally well. This was a different format with more sprint events and I think the kids really responded well to it as more athletes were put into those sprinting events as usual and I think this is something we may do more down the road.”

For the men, Aceino won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.14 and the 50 butterfly with a time of 23.11, while el Sayed earned victories in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:34.40 and the 500 free with a time of 4:40.70. Welling swept the diving events as he earned a score of 264.15 on the 1-meter and a 224.17 on the 3-meter board.

Balogh earned wins in the 1,000 free and the 100 breaststroke with times of 10:20.54 and 1:08.40 respectively, while Czerska won the 500 and 200 free events with times of 5:09.39 and 1:57.04 respectively. Tomeckova swept the backstroke events as she won the 50 back with a time of 27.21 and the 100 back with a 57.53, while Seiple won the 100 fly with a time of 59.81 and had the fastest time in the 50 fly with a 27.21.

Both teams will return to the pool next week as they host Eastern Michigan in a dual meet starting at 1 p.m. at the OU Aquatic Center.
