Northern Colorado Wins Four Duals at South Dakota State

BROOKINGS, South Dakota, November 11. THE Northern Colorado swimmers fared extremely well in a pair of meets held Saturday at South Dakota State University which also featured Northern Iowa, sweeping four duals.

The Bears defeated Northern Iowa 209-84 in the first meet and 290-146 in the later meet, and beat South Dakota State 197-101 and then 237-199.

In the pentathlon meet, Bears freshman Nan Liu made a clean sweep, winning the 50 freestyle (24.51), 50 breaststroke (31.40), 50 butterfly (26.15), 50 backstroke (26.73) and the 100 IM (59.77).

Right behind Liu with a string of second-place finishes was Katie Schmitt, with times of 25:04 (50 free), 32:62 (50 breast), 27:38 (50 fly), 28:89 (50 back) and 1:01.06 (100 IM).

In the later meet, 12 Bears earned a first-place finish. Schmitt claimed the 1000 free (10:41.50), and teamed with Liu, Nikki Plunkard and Dawn Adams to win the 400 free relay in 3:38.96.

The Bears also won the 200 medley relay with Liu, Lizzy Wyman, Alexis Glessner and Getz taking a time of 1:52.79.

Glessner claimed the 200 free (1:59.69), while Michelle McReynolds won the 500 free 5:33.46.

Cassie Mitchell picked up a victory in the 100 breast with a 1:15.98 while Chesney Randolph won the 100 fly (1:01.86) and Andrea Naughton took the 200 IM (2:19.09).

Northern Colorado also swept the diving competition, with Sarah Cook winning the 1-meter (229.05) while Jessica Leach took the 3-meter (198.45).
