Northern Colorado, South Dakota State vs. Northern Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa, November 13. THE University of Northern Iowa hosted two meets, both against South Dakota State and Northern Colorado. In the first meet, UNI fell to SDSU 151-88 and to UNC 161-77.50. In the afternoon meet, UNI fell to SDSU 145-77 and to UNC 150-72.

The relay team of Natalie Johnson, Caryn Knight, Jaime Pearson and Stephanie Frederick took second in the 400 medley relay. The quartet finished with a time of 4:08.40.

Chelsea Hartman took third in the 1,650 freestyle. She clocked in with a time of 18.05.78. Teammate Kelly McCullough finished in fourth with a time of 18.40.50. McCullough also took fourth in the 200 butterfly. She finished with a time of 2:19.05, just a second short of the third place spot.

Josie Itzen took third in the 200 freestyle. She finished with at time of 2:01.93. Frederick finished strong in the 50 freestyle, clocking in with a time of 25.14. Caryn Knight, with a time of 2:16.79, took third in the 200 IM.

Diver Bethany Olson took third in the 1-meter dive. She increased her season-best score of 233.50 points, as she finished with 245.30 points. Olson also took third in the 3-meter dive, finishing with 226.75 points.
Rebecca Ortmann finished fourth in a close 100 freestyle race. She finished the race with a time of 55.87.

The 800 freestyle relay team of Hartman, Ashlee Graham, April Mangrich and Itzen took third. The team finished with a time of 8:18.09.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Itzen, Jaime Pearson, MacKenzie Smith and Frederick took third place. Frederick swam the fastest anchor leg to finish with a strong time of 1:41.29

After a short break, the swimmers returned to action for the second meet of the day.

The relay team of Natalie Johnson, Caryn Knight, Jaime Pearson and Stephanie Frederick started off for the Panthers finishing in third in the 200 medley relay. The quartet finished with a time of 1:53.52.

Distance swimmer Chelsea Hartman swam a fast 500 freestyle race, to come in with a second-place finish. She clocked in at 5:19.37.

With a time of 25.21, Frederick took the runner-up spot in the 50 freestyle. MacKenzie Smith followed shortly behind with a time of 25.99. Smith also took fourth in the 100 freestyle. She finished with at time of 55.99, a season-best time for her.

Pearson swam the fastest 100 butterfly time for the Panthers. She clocked in with a time of 1:01.71, good enough for a third-place finish. Kayla McCormick followed behind with a time of 1:02.08.

To finish off the afternoon meet, the relay team of Itzen, Ortmann, Smith and Frederick took third in the 400 freestyle relay. The relay team finished with a time of 3:44.97.

The Panthers next action will be on Dec. 3-5 at the University of Iowa Invitational meet. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. with day 1 prelims.
