North Texas Championships

SOUTHLAKE, Texas. February 28. KRISTALYN McAfee from Fort Worth Area Swim Team (FAST) was the standout swimmer during the North Texas Short Course Championships at the CISD Aquatic Center.

McAfee impressively won five individual events including the 50 free (24.53), 100 free (53.05), 200 free (1:54.74), 500 free (5:10.95), and 200 IM (2:14.11). Teammate Sarah Manning had an individual win as well, winning the 100 back (1:00.65) beating McAfee who settled for second (1:01.34).

The North Texas Nadadores had event wins come from swimmers Katey Norman, Lyndsie Gibson, and Mackenzie Leanord. Norman won the 1000 free (10:54.53), Gibson won the 200 back (2:06.40), and Leonard won the 200 breast (2:28.65). Teammate Maddie O' Neal came up .02 short in the 100 fly, finishing second behind winner Shelbi Ragsdale (1:01.13) of Lakeside Aquatic Club.

Other event winners included Maureen Hunt of City of Plano Swimmers, Lizzy Osterman of the Texas River Sharks, and unattached swimmer Laura Glass. Hunt won the 1650 free (18:05.69), Osterman won the 200 fly (2:10.80) and Glass won the 100 breast (1:09.16).

There were many multiple winners on the men's side including Zach Walters and Cole Brewer of City of Plano Swimmers, Lyle Sarembock from the Academy of Texas Aquatic Champ, and Jack Beckwitt of the Dallas Mustangs.

Walters won the 100 free (48.55) and 100 breast (1:03.77), which teammate Brewer won the 1000 free (10:01.08) and 200 fly (1:59.13). Sarembock won the 50 free (22.77) and 100 back (55.23) and Beckwitt took the 100 fly (53.28) and 400 IM (4:23.66).

Beckwitt's teammate, Christophe Alkire, picked up another win for the Mustangs winning the 1650 free (16:51.27).

Three Nadadores swimmers picked up points for winning events including Aaron Greene, John Remetta, and Drew Glenn. Greene won the 200 back (1:52.22), Remetta won the 200 breast (2:16.30) and Glenn won the 200 IM (2:00.36).

Other event winners included Josh Latvatalo of Lakeside Aquatics and Hayden Henry of the Texas River Snakes who won the 200 free (1:47.40) and 500 free (4:53.99) respectively.

The City of Plano Swimmers won the Championship with 1190.5 points, the North Texas Nadadores were second with 1110 points, and Lakeside Aquatic Club was third with 751 points.
