North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Georgia, October 21. THE North Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened Atlantic Coast Conference dual meet action Friday evening as the Tar Heels swept Georgia Tech at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The Tar Heel men overcame a plucky Yellow Jacket team 170-122 while the UNC women defeated Tech 187.5-100.5.
The Tar Heels were particularly dominant on the women's side of the ledger against the Yellow Jackets as Carolina won 14 of 16 events in the meet. Senior Jenna Moore swept the diving events with scores of 278.25 on the one-meter board and 325.05 on the three-meter board. Fellow senior Laura Moriarty won a pair of individual events for North Carolina as she won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:01.75 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:03.56. Moriarty also swam the breaststroke leg on the Tar Heels' victorious 200-yard medley relay.

Junior Katie Nolan won the 100-yard backstroke and also swam the butterfly leg on UNC's winning 200-yard medley relay while senior Sarah Tanner won the 200-yard backstroke and the third leg on the victorious 400-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Katie Rechsteiner had an excellent meet as she swept the breaststroke events in 1:04.83 and 2:21.30. Freshman Kelsey Cummings was also a two-event winner as she swept the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:04.19 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.02. Freshman Nikki Barczak was also a two-event winner as she anchored both winning relay units.

The Tar Heels won 13 events on the men's side with senior Steve Cebertowicz having a trulyimpressive day. He seized the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles in blazing times of 20.46 and 44.45. Cebertowicz also anchored the Tar Heels'victorious 200-yard medley relay while leading off the winning 400-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Dominick Glavich also had a tremendous day as he went 1:48.49 to win the 200-yard butterfly and broke 50 seconds to capture the 100-yard butterfly in 49.99. Glavich also swam the breaststroke leg on the 200-yard medley relay team.

Junior Tom Luchsinger won a pair of individual events as he garnered top honors in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:40.58 while capturing the 200-yard backstroke in 1:51.14. Luchsinger also swam the butterfly leg on the 200-yard medley relay team.

Both North Carolina teams improved to 2-0 on the season and Georgia Tech falls to 0-2 on both sides of the ledger. Georgia Tech had opened its season with losses to Georgia while the Tar Heels had beaten East Carolina.

Carolina will continue its fall break road trip on Saturday when it competes on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Gabrielsen Natatorium. UNC's women's team dressed today in pink t-shirts for warmup to promote breast cancer awareness month.
