Noemie Thomas Snares Third Butterfly Title of Meet in Canada

SASKATOON, Canada, July 19. THE Canadian Summer Nationals came to a close with another butterfly triumph by Noemie Thomas in Saskatoon.

Thomas capped a strong meet with a third triumph as she posted a 2:12.02 in the women’s 200-meter fly. That went with her victories in the 50 and 100 meter butterfly events. Haley Black took second tonight in 2:15.44 with Jacomie Strydom finishing third in 2:15.44.

Caroline Lapierre-Lemire clipped Ariane Mainville, 25.63 to 25.66, in the women’s 50-meter freestyle. Hannah Riordan checked in with a third-place time of 25.82. Chris Manning claimed the men’s 50-meter free title against Cameron Kidd, 22.62 to 22.67. Hassaan Abdel-Khalik snared third in 23.12.

Erin Stamp turned in a 2:16.88 for the win in the women’s 200-meter IM. Ashley McGregor placed second in 2:17.67 with Rachel Nicol winding up third in 2:18.10 after her amazing 100 breast finale last night. Alec Page won the men’s 200-meter IM in 2:04.13 with Hochan Ryu finishing second in 2:04.57. Matthew Myers rounded out the top three in 2:05.07.

Samantha Harding topped the women’s 800-meter freestyle in 8:47.01 with Danica Ludlow snaring second in 8:52.43. Olivia Anderson rounded out the top three in 8:52.79. Mack Darragh cleared Alec Page, 2:00.48 to 2:00.97, in the men’s 200-meter fly finale. Thomas Jobin placed third in 2:02.24.

Kier Maitland had a big-time battle in the men’s 1500-meter free with a 15:26.00 to 15:26.08 triumph ahead of Eric Heldin in the metric mile. Peter Brothers raced into the third-place spot in the distance free with a 15:42.85.

The 400-meter medley relays closed the show. Pointe-Claire’s Alexia Zevnik (1:02.73), Ashley McGregor (1:10.49), Sara Touchette-McGowan (1:01.85) and Caroline Lapierre-Lemire (55.63) took home the women’s title in 4:10.70. Calgary’s Bradley Cooper (58.15), Jason Block (1:02.34), Thomas Jobin (55.90) and Reid Scarrow (51.45) turned in a 3:47.84 to win the men’s finale.
