LONDON, England, July 25. A trio of New Zealanders took their turn in front of the media at the Main Press Center on Wednesday just prior to the beginning of the 2012 London Olympics.

Lauren BOYLE

On her hectic schedule leading into the London 2012 Olympic Games, which included training in California and Belgium:
“Changing environments often is good for me because I feel stimulated and I don't become complacent and when I'm stimulated I'm definitely getting more out of my training. Mentally I have been pretty strong and I have never been in this position before where I made a world championship final last year.”

On whether she will be better suited to the 400m freestyle or the 800m freestyle at the Games:
“Last year at the world championships I did better in the 400m freestyle but since then I have done a lot of distance-orientated work and I haven't really had the chance to taper down to the level I am now to see how good I can be in the 800m. The 400m is first on day two and then I will have four days to recover until the 800 but I'm not really sure which one will be better.”

Gareth KEAN

On how he has matured since taking silver in the 200m backstroke at the 2010 Commonwealth Games:
“I'm still 20 so I was young back then. I have developed quite a lot physically and done a lot of work in the gym, especially in the last year and a half. I have put on 15kg of muscle since then and I felt that I have been able to swim fast in the 100m backstroke, which played a part in being selected as part of the relay team. It has put a lot more speed in my stroke and made me a bit more efficient in the 200m backstroke as well. The 100m I would say is my priority but that is because it is my first race.”

Glenn SNYDERS

On his impressions of London 2012, having participated at Beijing 2008:
“It doesn't seem as overwhelming as Beijing but it is still a great experience walking into the village and meeting the other athletes. It always gives you goose bumps.”
