Neethling Has Medals Stolen from Home

SANDTON, South Africa, June 3. TAKING a break from the competitive scene, South African Ryk Neethling had at least 20 of his swimming medals stolen from his home early Friday morning. The robbers also stole a laptop computer, along with clothing. The medals included some won at the Commonwealth Games and World Championships. His Olympic gold medal from the 400 freestyle relay in Athens was not taken, as it was not at the home.

According to reports from South Africa, police have taken a man into custody. Neethling is among the world’s elite freestylers and, once he returns to training, will begin preparation for next year’s World Champs in Melbourne.
