Nebraska-Omaha Ends North Dakota Women’s North Central Conference Winning Streak at 23

By M. Duncan Scott

OMAHA, NE, February 24. RON Allen, coach of the University of South Dakota Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams, reminds us that we sometimes get overwhelmed with NCAA Division One happenings and miss out on really big news items within our swimming community. Says Coach Allen:

"Big Division II news if you missed it. (Yes, there are other divisions than D I) University of North Dakota’s women’s 23-year North Central Conference streak was ended by Nebraska Omaha this weekend! That is news."

You’re right, Ron. That is news. And from the looks of it the North Dakota women didn’t go down without a fight, trailing by only 19.5 points after scoring nearly 1300. Congratulations to all on a hard fought North Central meet, including coach Allen’s squads which finished fourth on the women’s side but second to North Dakota in the men’s competition.

Among the outstanding performances were a :48.97 100 fly from Fernando Alves and a :44.84 100 free, :48.47 100 back and :20.27 triple win from Rodrigo Ferreira. Alves and Ferreira both toil for the North Dakota Fighting Sioux.
