NCSA Junior Nationals To Be a Selection Meet

PHOENIX, Ariz, July 29. THE 2003 NCSA Junior National Swimming Championships, to be held August 12-16, at The Woodlands, TX, will be a selection meet for an NCSA All-Star Team.

The NCSA Junior National All-Star Team will participate as a team in the 2003 Tualatin Hills Swim Club Junior International, December 12-14, 2003. The team will be comprised of 26 female and 26 male swimmers. Coaches will be selected based upon athlete placement on the All-Star Team.

The tentative plans call for the team to assemble in the Portland, OR, area on Wednesday, December 10, 2003. After team meetings, media day, a team luncheon and workouts on Thursday, the swimmers will compete in the three day format of the 4th Annual Tualatin Hills Swim Club Junior International. The team's members will travel home on Monday, December 16th.

Only swimmers born January 1st, 1985 or after will be selected for the team. Team members must be USA citizens.

Previous Countries represented include Germany, Italy, France, China, Mexico and a large contingent from Canada along with some top US Clubs: Circle “C”, Santa Clara, King County, Tri-Cities, Pine Crest, and San Ramon-Livermore Valley.

Teams from Canada, Great Britain and other interested countries will be invited to send participating teams to this outstanding meet that will been hosted by Coach Paul Bergen’s Tualatin Hills Thunderbolts.

The National Club Swimming Association will be a sponsor of the 4th Annual Tualatin Hills Swim Club Junior International. NCSA President Bob Gillett said,
“We are extremely excited about this association between Tualatin Hills’ Junior International and the NCSA. The selection of an All-Star Team to travel to the Portland area and participate in this outstanding competition provides our young athletes with some really meaningful goal direction for our upcoming Junior National Swimming Championships at The Woodlands.

"Selection meets are always more exciting! This is just the type of fun and excite that we have always envisioned for our top developing young swimmers. We know that NCSA can add to the success of this great effort by Coach Bergen’s team.

"We are looking forward to seeing other countries commit to the meet and see it develop into a great situation for our 18 and under swimmers.”
