NCAA Women’s Swimming: No. 3 Stanford Defeats No. 18 Arizona State

Stanford, Calif. – The third-ranked Stanford women’s swimming and diving team cruised to a 147-92 victory over #18 Arizona State (3-2) in a Pacific-10 Conference dual swim meet this afternoon at deGuerre Pool. The Cardinal remained undefeated with the victory, improving to 3-0 on the season. Stanford faces a tough challenge tomorrow when #2 Arizona visits the Cardinal (Noon). Misty Hyman (Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Moutain HS), Shelly Ripple (Baton Rouge, LA/Parkview Baptist HS)and Jessica Foschi (Old Brookville, NY/Friends Academy) each won three events for Stanford this afternoon. Hyman was victorious in the 200 individual medley (2:01.73, provisional NCAA qualifying time), 200 fly (1:57.32, automatic NCAA qualifying time) and also a member of the Cardinal’s winning 400 medley relay team, where she swam a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 54.71 in the leadoff 100 back. Ripple won the 200 free (1:49.74, NCAA provisional) and 200 back (2:00.66, NCAA provisional). Ripple also swam the 100 fly leg of the 400 medley relay team. Foschi won the meet’s two long distance events, winning the 500 free (4:51.82, NCAA provisional) and 1000 free (9:57.59). The Cardinal won each of the meet’s first 11 events before Arizona State finally captured victories in the 200 breast (Riley Mants, 2:18.32) and 400 free relay (Claire Hedenskog, Sarah Adams, Tennille Taylor, Casey Murphy, 3:32.22) to close out the meet.
