NCAA Men’s Weekend Preview

By Dave Denniston

CARLSBAD, California, February 9. GET ready college swimming fans for a weekend of… not much. The highlight this weekend will be the only dual meet in the top-10, as Arizona travels to Tempe to take on the Sun Devils.

All of the SEC schools are gearing up for the SEC Championships that start next wednesday while Cal and Stanford are preparing themselves for one final faceoff before the Pac-10 championships. And the Big Ten schools are starting to rest for their championship meet in a few weeks. There are, however, several other conference meets that will take place in college swimming this weekend. SwimmingWorldMagazine.com will be covering those events on the College Channel.

1. Auburn: As with all of the SEC schools, the Tigers are taking this weekend off to rest for competition starting next wednesday.

2. Cal Berkeley: After edging out USC last weekend, the Bears are taking this weekend off in anticipation for the "dual meet of the year" next weekend against Stanford.

3. Stanford: Coming off of their first loss of the season against USC last weekend, the Cardinal are regrouping for the dual meet against Cal next weekend.

4. Florida: The Gators are preparing themselves for what could be one of the closest SEC Championships in years. The men are going to make a run at shutting down Auburn's SEC winning streak.

5. Texas: The Longhorns are starting to prepare for the Big 12 Championships in two weeks.

6. Michigan: The Wolverines aren't swimming this weekend either. Big Ten's are in two weeks. They're probably getting ready for that.

7. Arizona: The only top-10 dual meet of the weekend will consist of in-state rivals, Arizona versus Arizona State. The Wildcats are traveling to Tempe on Saturday. Wildcat sprinters will attempt to hold off the distance based Sun Devils.

8. Minnesota: The Gophers are preparing themselves for the Big Ten Championships.

9. Southern California: After a brilliant victory last weekend against Stanford, the Trojans are back to training this weekend. Pac-10's don't start for a few more weeks.

10. Georgia: Georgia is preparing itself for the SEC Championships next week.
