NCAA Men’s Weekend Preview

CARLSBAD, California. January 19. WITH Championship meets around the corner, this is quite possibly the biggest dual meet weekend of the season. Arizona teams are traveling to Northern California to take on powerhouses Stanford and Cal. Auburn is going to the swamp. Everyone is trying to get as many people as they can qualified for the NCAA Championships in March.

1. Auburn: The Tigers are heading to Gainesville, Florida this weekend to take on the sixth-ranked Gators. After winning by only one point in Texas, many wonder if Florida can end Auburn’s 40-meet winning streak.

2. Stanford: After a weekend of rest, the Cardinal magically moved up to No. 2 in the rankings. No matter, one of the most hyped-up meets in collegiate swimming is Friday, as Stanford hosts #5 Arizona. Traditionally, this meet produces the fastest times of the season for both schools before the championship meets get under way. Saturday, Stanford will also host Arizona State for back-to-back dual meets.

3. Cal Berkeley: Arizona and Arizona State will wave to each other as they cross the Bay this weekend, as ASU will take on the Bears Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, the #5 Wildcats intend to challenge Berkeley at home on Saturday.

4. Michigan: The Wolverines have this weekend off after taking down Purdue last Friday, 132-111.

5. Arizona: The Wildcats are ready to show that they have a shot at taking it all this year as they travel to San Francisco to dual #2 Stanford and #3 Cal. Winning both of these meets will be a challenge, but all indicators show the ‘Cats are ready to move up.

6. Florida: The Gators will host Alabama and #1 Auburn this weekend. Look for a great matchup between two of the greatest all-around swimmers in collegiate history as George Bovell and Ryan Lochte battle in some head-to-head competition. The question remains, will Florida have enough depth to nudge out the Tigers?

7.Texas: The Longhorns have this weekend off after a nail-biter against Auburn and a victory over Georgia last weekend.

8. Minnesota: After a victorious trip to Tempe, the Gophers have this weekend off.

9. Southern California: The Trojans are taking this weekend off to prepare for Stanford and Cal Berkeley next weekend.

10.Indiana: Welcoming the Hoosiers to Lexington, Kentucky will be the #17 Wildcats. Kentucky’s sprint corps will try and stump Indiana, as the Hoosiers look to continue climbing up the rankings.
