NCAA Division III Preview: Denison Begins Title Quest This Weekend

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 10. DIVISION III powerhouse Denison University will begin another quest to bring home NCAA championship titles this weekend as the women take on Toledo and the men face off against Wabash in a relatively light weekend of Division III action.

The Denison men finished as runner-up at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships, while the women’s team took third overall. Both teams are consistently among the top three at the big show and have the potential to place well again this year. They’ll have to make up for the loss of All-Americans Alyssa Swanson and Lindsay Zeberlein on the women’s side, and Quinn Bartlett and Gabe Dixson on the men’s squad; this weekend will be a major opportunity for newcomers to step up and show what they can do.

Puget Sound will host Simon Fraser on Saturday in their second meet of the season. The Loggers swept NAIA College of Idaho last weekend. Derek Frenzel won three events for the Logger men, touching first in the 200m free, 100m fly and 400m free, while teammate Melissa Norrish picked up wins in the women’s 100m and 200m free last weekend.

Other meets on this weekend’s schedule include SUNY-Cortland vs. New York University, Rowan vs. Marywood, SUNY-Brockport vs. Ithaca and the Widener Relays.
