NCAA Division 1 Top 25 Rankings

Plenty of action took place as the swimming season winds down to conference championship season, as the Speedo/CSCAA Top 25 list reflects.
Harvard, Yale and Princeton held a tri-meet last weekend at Princeton’s DeNunzio Pool. Both of Princeton’s teams took top honors, the women wnning 205-112 over Harvard and 196.5-120.5 over Yale. Yale’s women narrowly defeated Harvard 168.5-150.5. On the men’s side, Princeton scored 197 points to Harvard’s 156 and 253 points to Yale’s 100. Harvard outscored Yale 243-110. Harvard’s John Cole grabbed the top spot in the 1000 free (8:54.92), as did Yale’s George Gleason in the 200 IM (1:47.35), both with nation-leading performances. Gleason also came in second in the 400 IM (3:50.11) and eighth in the 200 free (1:36.79). Other top-10 swims were turned in by Princeton’s Jesse Gage (50 free, 20.14; 100 free, 43.95r; 100 fly, 47.87), Carl Hessler (500 free, 4:23.70) and Garth Fealey (100 breast, 55.16).
Setting number one times wasn’t confined to the East Coast. In the process of defeating USC 159-82, three Stanford swimmers turned in nation-leading times. Adam Messner turned in a 1:35.90 in the 200 free; Markus Rogan went 1:43.71 in the 200 back and Michael Bruce posted a 1:57.55 in the 200 breast. The next day, Cal beat the Trojans 168.5-128.5, highlighted by USC’s Erik Vendt second-ranked time in the 1650 free (15:01.41) and teammate Tamas Kerekjarto’s No. 2 time in the 200 IM (1:47.68).
During Texas’ 146.5-115.5 victory over SMU on Saturday, Brendan Hansen posted the top time in the nation in the 100 breast (54.12) for the Longhorns, while Texas A&M’s Riley Janes led off the 400 medley relay against SMU in 47.18, the nation’s fastest 100 back this season.
On the women’s side, Stanford’s Tara Kirk has the top time in the 100 breast (1:00.45) from the Cardinal victory over Texas and SMU this weekend. Also at the tri-meet, the Longhorns’ Rachel Harris has the fifth-fastest time in the 1650 free (16:25.43), and Misty Hyman of Stanford has the No. 10 time in the 200 free (1:47.80) and is sixth in the 200 IM (2:01.12). SMU’s Georgina Lee also turned in a sixth-place time in the 200 fly (1:58.55).
