NCAA Div. III: Johns Hopkins Sweeps the Grove City Invitational

GROVE CITY, Penn., Feb. 24. THE Johns Hopkins men's and women's swimming teams each tuned up for the NCAA Championships by winning the Grove City Invitational this weekend. The men totaled 804 points and the women
had 761 points in the 11-school meet.

Loren Robinson (Coats, NC/Triton) led the men's team by winning the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:08.22, the 200 individual medley in 1:57.17, and the 100 breaststroke in 58.46, while Kyle Robinson (Holden,
MA/Wachusett School) took the 100 freestyle in 46.73 and the 200 freestyle in 1:42.89.

Other individual event winners for the Blue Jays were Ben Herman (Great Neck, NY/Great Neck North), who won the 1650 freestyle in 16:19.40, and Oliver Buccicone (Rochester, MN/Lourdes), who took the 200 butterfly in 1:55.25.

The Hopkins men also dominated the relays, as four different relay teams won their respective races. The 400 free relay team of Devin Stith (Southampton, PA/ William Tennent), Loren Robinson, Justin Brannock (West Palm Beach, FL/Dreyfoos School of the Arts), and Kyle Robinson won in 3:09.18, while the 400 medley relay team of Brandon Loftus (Milwaukee, WI/ Marquette), Paul Zalewski (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood), Jeffrey Chu (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville), and Kyle
Robinson took its race in 3:29.97.

The 200 medley relay team of Jason Loverdi (Fredericksburg, VA/James Monroe), Loren Robinson, Chu, and David Lofthus (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) won in 1:35.93, and the 800 free relay team of Scott Armstrong (Medford Lakes, NJ/Bernards/ West Morris Central), Dan Stillman (Virginia Beach,
VA/Suffield Academy), Brannock, and Loren Robinson won in 7:02.54.

Stephanie Harbeson (Harriman, NY/The Peddie School-NJ) won the 1650 freestyle in 17:32.91 and the 400 individual medley in 4:39.83 to lead the Blue Jay women. Megan Rudinsky (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park)
took the 200 individual medley in 2:12.22, Diana Smirnova (Las Cruces, NM/Phillips Exeter Academy) won the 200 freestyle in 1:58.50, and Melanie McLenithan (Sanger, CA/Sanger) won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.51.

The Hopkins women also won four relays, as the 400 free relay team of Rudinsky, McLenithan, Smirnova, and Harbeson won in 3:37.66 and the 200 free relay team of Jeanine Juillet (Basking Ridge, NJ/Pingry), Harbeson, Rudinsky, and McLenithan won in 1:39.82.

The 400 medley relay team of Lauren Thompson (Flushing,
NY/Horace Mann), Elizabeth Schlicher (Mountain Lakes, NJ/Mountain Lakes), Rudinsky, and Harbeson took its race in 4:01.68, and the 200 medley relay team of Thompson, Schlicher, Rudinsky, and Juillet won in
1:50.62.

The 800 free relay team of Emma Gregory (Hillsborough,
NJ/Hillsborough), Smirnova, Meghan Bullock (Phoenix, AZ/Phoenix Country Day), and Harbeson also won its race in 7:55.49.

The Blue Jays return to action at the NCAA Championships. The women's championships are on March 14-16, while the men's are on March 21-23. Both championships will be held in Oxford, OH.
