NCAA Div. I Women: Oregon State Beats Washington State

CORVALLIS, Ore., Jan. 31. THE Oregon State women’s swim team defeated Washington State University Friday, 100-78. The victory gives the Beavers an overall record of 11-2 and a 1-2 Pac-10 record on the season. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 3-3 (0-2 in the Pac-10) in dual meets.

There was no men's meet as both rich Pac-10 schools have killed off their men's programs.

Oregon State got off to a quick start, winning the first three events. OSU led 42-12 after the third event.

Lindsay Henahan led the Cougars with victories in two individual events (50 free/24.40, 100 fly/56.32), and one second place finish as a member of the 200 medley relay (1:48.82).

Senior Jill Olson (500 free/5:08.72) and freshman Jane Copland (100 breaststroke/1:05.86) added the only other two victories for WSU. Copland also had a second place finish in the 500 free (5:09.88).

Nicole Chinn (100 backstroke/59.07), Becca Cohen (100 free/54.10), and Lesley Ouellette (100 breaststroke/ 1:11.13) all added second place finishes for the Cougs.

WSU came into the meet after a week off. Washington State last competed January 17 and 18, falling to Nevada in a relay meet and a dual meet.

The Cougars and Beavers face off once again in a dual meet Saturday, February 1. The races begin at 11 a.m. at Stevens Natatorium.

Washington State heads back home Saturday, February 8 for their last home meet of the season. The Cougars will take on two club teams in the Cougar Invitational beginning at 11 a.m. at Gibb pool.
