NCAA Div. I: Texas A&M Sweeps TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 25. THE Texas A&M men's and women's swimming & diving team swept Texas Christian at the Rickel Center today, winning the men's meet 154-118 and the women's 162-109. The Aggie men are now
2-0, while the women are 1-1.

Men's Meet
The Aggies captured seven individual victories in the pool, as well as a one-two finish in the 200-yard medley relay, in striding their way to a still-unblemished record.

"We had a real take-care-of-business mentality today," said assistant men's swimming coach Jay Holmes.
"Everybody got on their blocks and did a good job."

Senior diver Jesse Even continued his stellar season with wins on both the one-meter and three-meter springboards, scoring 18 points for A&M.

Sophomore Scott Mueller led the way for the Aggie swimmers, earning gold in both the 200-yard freestyle and 200 individual medley.

Five of the seven events won by the Aggies were done so by different swimmers. All-Americans Patrick Kennedy and Matt Rose captured wins in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, respectively. Other A&M swimmers taking home gold included Scott Hansen, 200 butterfly; Robbie Taylor, 50 freestyle; and Dan Blanchard, 100 freestyle

Women's Meet
The Texas A&M women's swimming & diving team earned its first win of the young season with a 162-109 defeat of TCU at the Rickel Center on Thursday.

The Aggies, who had begun the year with a fourth place finish at the Big 12 Relays and a dual meet defeat at the hands of Missouri, rebounded strongly by capturing seven individual wins in the pool, sweeping first on both the one and three-meter springboards, and grabbing the win in the only scoring relay.

"We had some people really step up and do a nice job," said head coach Steve Bultman. "Winning the first relay was big for us. We performed much better than last week and are moving in the right direction."

All-American Clara Ho swept both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly for the second straight meet, clocking times of 57.01 and 2:04.95.

Not to be outdone, All-American diver Meghan Zack also was a double winner on the springboards for the second straight week. Zack beat teammate Katie Williams 291.45-262.50 on the one-meter and 316.65-311.70 on the three-meter. Aggie divers contributed 32 points toward the team's first win.

The Aggie freshmen also stepped to the forefront in a very visible way. Tiffany Moore claimed her second win of the year with a time of 5:05.63 in the 500-yard freestyle. Courtney Patterson owned the backstroke with wins at both 100 and 200 yards. Danielle Townsend was also a double winner, taking the 50 and 100-freestyle titles.
