NCAA Div. I Men: #7 Michigan Comes from Behind to Nip #6 Florida, 125-118

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 1. DESPITE leading through the first nine events and after the 11th, the No. 6 University of Florida men's swimming and diving team couldn't hold and fell to No. 7 Michigan, 125-118, Friday night at the Canham Natatorium.

The Gators (1-1) led 105-102 through 11 events, but were outscored 12-7 in the 200-meter breaststroke and 11-6 in the 400-meter freestyle relay by the Wolverines (2-0) to close the meet.

Junior Zach Wilcox (Yarrow Point, Wash.) and sophomore Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.) each won two events for the second consecutive night for Florida. Wilcox won the one-meter with an NCAA provisional mark of 340.80 and also took top honors in the three-meter with a score of 304.35.

Lochte won the 400-meter freestyle with an NCAA provisional time of 4:01.20 and also touched the wall first in the 200-meter individual medley (2:07.84).

Junior Gabriel Mangabeira (Piratininga, Brazil) captured the other individual event for the Gators, taking first in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 24.12. Mangabeira also placed second in the 100-meter freestyle (52.27).

Florida won the opening event of the meet as senior Chris Kellam (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.), freshman Bill Mrazek (Tallahassee, Fla.), Mangabeira and senior Scott Schultz (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) won the 400-meter medley relay by nearly three seconds with a time of 3:55.29.

The Gators return to the pool Nov. 11 when Florida hosts intrastate rival Florida State. The meet is set for a 5 p.m. start at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
