NCAA Div. I Men: #1 Texas Beats #9 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 18. THE No. 1-ranked Texas men's swimming and diving team captured nine of 13 events to defeat No. 9 Michigan, 127.5-113.5, on Saturday at the Canham Natatorium In Ann Arbor. Texas is now 1-0 this season, while Michigan falls to 1-1 in dual action.

Texas Freshman Ian Crocker (Portland, Maine) paced the Longhorns, capturing the 100-yard freestyle with an NCAA consideration time of 44.85. He also swam on the winning 200 medley relay with teammates junior Joey
Montague (Houston, Texas), freshman Brendan Hansen (Havertown, Pa.) and junior Leffie Crawford (Pacifica, Calif.) in a time of 1:30.65.

Also posting NCAA consideration times were sophomore Chris Kemp (Southlake, Texas), who touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:38.08) and junior Tommy Hannan (Baltimore, Md.), who won the 200 IM (1:49.93).
Montague captured the 200 butterfly (1:49.49), while senior Nate Dusing (Villa Hills, Ky.) finished first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:46.82.

Texas junior Justin Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) swept the diving events, winning the one-meter (302.70) and three-meter springboard events (375.45).

Chris Thompson was a double winner for Michigan, winning the 1000 free in a swift 9:00.40 and the 500 in 4:27.02. Scott Werner out-touched Texas' Brendan Hansen by four-hundredths to win the 200 breast in 2:01.45, and Michigan took the 800 freestyle relay in 6:42.09.
