NCAA Div. I: Georgia Sweeps South Carolina

ATHENS, Ga., Jan. 31. THE No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs beat South Carolina 130-108 tonight, while the No. 3 Georgia women's team defeated USC 132-99.

The South Carolina men's team continued to have success in the sprint and middle distance freestyle events. Junior Chris McCrary won both the 50 freestyle (20.67) and 100 freestyle (45.78), while junior Tamas Szucs took home first in the 200 freestyle (1:40.28).

USC junior Ed Murphy finished second in the 100 freestyle behind McCrary with a time of 46.96. Sophomore diver Andy Bradley also continued his success, with victories in both the one-meter and three-meter events. Bradley took home first place on the one-meter with a score of 350.10, and scored 321.37 to earn the top spot on the three-meter.

On the women¹s side, USC freshman Haley Skaggs won the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.75. Jennifer VanAssen was edged out in the 200 freestyle by Paige Kearns, who beat her by .07 seconds. VanAssen finished with a time of 1:50.71 with Kearns winning the event at 1:50.64.

The USC women's divers also swept the one-meter and three-meter events as sophomores Lauren King and Tracey Richardson earned first place finishes. King and sophomore Allison Brennan finished 1-2 on the one-meter board with scores of 279.75 and 271.27 respectively. Richardson and King went 1-2 on the three-meter board with scores of 307.12 and 277.35.
