NC State Hires Mallory Houchin as Assistant Coach

RALEIGH, North Carolina, August 2. NC State swimming and diving head coach Braden Holloway announced today the addition of Mallory Houchin to the Wolfpack coaching staff as an assistant coach. Houchin, a Raleigh native, joins the Pack after spending the past year as an assistant coach at Queens University of Charlotte.

"I am very pleased and excited about Mallory joining our program," said Holloway. "She will bring versatile and valued experience to the staff, having worked with some of the best coaches in the country thus far in her career. She has a great reputation with both on-deck coaching and the recruiting scene, but most importantly she is a fabulous person.

"In our program's journey, Mallory will play a vital role in the mentoring of student-athletes as she is a natural leader and effective communicator."

As an assistant coach at State, Houchin will focus on women's recruiting and middle distance and stroke training. She will also serve as the staff lead for the program's administrative duties and will serve in a mentoring role for the women's team.

"I am happy to return to Raleigh, and thankful for the opportunity to working alongside Coach Holloway at NC State," said Houchin. "I've always been a Wolfpack fan, and I look forward to working at a program with such rich tradition."

Houchin was instrumental in the inaugural season at Queens University of Charlotte, serving as the head assistant and recruiting coordinator.
During her tenure, two student-athletes collected NCAA Division II All-America honors and the men's team collected a top-25 national ranking. In addition to handling several administrative duties, she also developed and implemented the program's strength-and-conditioning program.

Prior to her time in Charlotte, Houchin served as an assistant coach at Clemson from 2008-10, coaching mid-distance freestyle and butterfly events.

In the summer of 2008 Houchin served as an intern for the nationally known Club Wolverine program. In 2007 she held an internship with the United States Olympic Committee, working as a race analyst and administrator at the Olympic training center alongside the USA Swimming National Team in Colorado Springs, Colo.

A native of Raleigh, Houchin attended Cardinal Gibbons High School and swam for the YMCA of the Triangle Area (YOTA). She graduated with honors from George Mason in 2008 with a B.S. in health, fitness and recreation resources after lettering with the swimming and diving team for four years, competing in butterfly and mid-distance freestyle events.

The former Mallory Pucci resides in Raleigh with her husband, Joe, who attended Enloe and also swam for YOTA and at George Mason.
