NBAC’s Connor Kalisz Pledges to Florida State

BALTIMORE, Maryland, November 1. FLORIDA State just picked up one of the bigger names in swimming as a Kalisz is joining the Class of 2014 recruiting class. North Baltimore Aquatic Club’s Connor Kalisz told Swimming World today that he has decided to be a future Seminole.

Kalisz, who is ranked as the seventh-best recruit in Maryland by CollegeSwimming.com, comes from a dynastic swimming family, and has the potential to become something special at FSU.

Older sister Courtney dominated Maryland swimming with double-digit national age group records before heading off to Southern California for her collegiate career. Meanwhile, older brother, and NCAA titlist, Chase has become a world-beater at Georgia, having won silver in the 400 IM this summer at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona. An FSU-UGA dual meet could offer up some fun storylines in 2014.

The youngest, Cassidy, is also on the swimming trail and will enter the recruiting process in a few years.

Kalisz is pretty solid in the water with some versatility across the IM spectrum as is typical of any NBAC-produced swimmer. Kalisz’s best time is a 2:24.97 in the 200-meter breaststroke from the 2012 Maryland Long Course Championships. He also clocked a 59.07 in the 100-meter back stroke at that meet as well.

He also has a 1:49.30 in the 200-yard back, a 1:52.15 in the 200-yard IM and a 2:07.37 in the 200-yard breaststroke to his credit in yards competition as he will provide the Seminoles with a talent that could turn into a top-level swimmer during his collegiate career.

“I chose FSU because I loved the campus and the team atmosphere,” Kalisz told Swimming World. “I could immediately sense the relationships between the coaches and swimmers and that’s an atmosphere I wanted to be a part of.”

Kalisz is also an entrepreneur in the music field, having founded and built the music blog EmbraceTheBeat.com.
