Nation’s Capital, Seliskar Break NAG Records; Jack Conger Posts Swift 200 Fly

FAIRFAX, Virginia, March 11. NATION'S Capital Swim Club celebrated two national age group records this weekend at the Potomac Valley Swimming short course championships.

On Friday, Andrew Seliskar rewrote the 15-16 national age group record in the 100-yard breaststroke not once, but twice. In prelims, he swam a 53.33 to lower his own record of 54.06 from earlier in the year. He made it two times under 54 seconds in finals with a 53.26 victory. At just 16 years old, he's making himself competitive among much older swimmers, as his time would rank in the top 25 collegiately so far this season.

Later that evening, Hannah Baker, Emily Meilus, Lea Gwennap and Megan Byrnes swam a 7:28.00 in the 800-yard freestyle relay for a national record in the 13-14 age group. The record stays in Maryland, as the previous mark of 7:29.39 belonged to a squad from the North Baltimore Aquatic Club in 2006 that included current collegiate standouts Felicia Lee and Elizabeth Pelton.

Jack Conger of Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club, prepping for next week's NCSA junior national championships, swam only the preliminaries of the 200 butterfly, posting a swift 1:43.74 on Sunday. He sliced two seconds off his lifetime best, a 1:45.85 done in March 2012.

Seliskar was the dominant swimmer on the men's side of the meet, winning the 500 free (4:18.97), 100 free (44.38) and 200 fly (1:45.76). He also posted a 1:36.39 leadoff leg on Nation's Capital's 800 free relay that was later disqualified. Like Conger, Seliskar is also attending the NCSA junior nationals, but is oddly not competing in the 100 breaststroke.
