Nathan Adrian Clocks Fastest Prelims 100 Freestyle

There were a significant number of no-shows in this morning’s 100 freestyle action.

Nathan Adrian entered the meet with a 48.00, the fourth fastest time in the world this year. This morning he clocked a 48.43.

Ryan Held skyrocketed upward to become the 13th fastest American 100 freestyler in history. He was seeded with a 49.17 but posted a 48.46. That time puts him just outside the world’s top 20 this year.

NCAA star Caeleb Dressel topped the first circle seeded heat in 48.69, a new personal best time.

Anthony Ervin put together a 48.76 to win heat nine and earn the fourth seed. 2012 Olympian Jimmy Feigen was on Dressel’s heels the whole way finishing second in 49.03, the fifth seed headed into semifinals.

Fresh off his Olympic qualifying 200 freestyle Ryan Lochte took the sixth spot in 49.13, just .01 ahead of incoming Florida Gator Maxime Rooney (49.14).

In 49.16 William Copeland took the eighth spot. he was followed by David Williams (49.28) and David Nolan (49.31). Seth Stubblefield (49.35), Blake Pieroni (49.39) and Josh Schneider (49.45) took the 11th through 13th seeds.

John Murray (49.46) and Conor Dwyer (49.51) also earned semifinals swims.

After a tough third place finish last night in the 100 backstroke, Matt Grevers got back up this morning and posted a 49.55 to be the last swimmer into semifinals.
