NAIA Championships: Fresno Pacific, SCAD Win Team Titles

ST. PETERS, Missouri, March 6. THE NAIA Championships concluded with Fresno Pacific winning the men's title and the Savannah College of Art and Design snaring the women's title.

Fresno tallied 659.5 points to win the men's title, while California Baptist took second with 488.5 points. Lindenwood placed third with 477 points. Concordia (428.5) and SCAD (421) finished fourth and fifth.

SCAD put up 540 points for the women's crown, while Cal Baptist finished second with 472 points. Fresno (451), Concordia (393) and Simon Fraser (354) completed the top five.

Azusa Pacific's Kaylen Hewko set an NAIA record in the women's 200 fly with a time of 2:02.57. The effort wiped out the 2:03.24 set by Drury's Nida Zuhal back in 1994. Cal Baptist's Adriana Quezada (2:03.67) and Hazel Castillo (2:05.27) finished second and third. Lindenwood's Javier Hernandez won the men's 200 fly with a time of 1:46.74, breaking an NAIA record of his own. The performance erased the 1:47.48 set by Jan Tichy of Cal Baptist back in 2007. Cal Baptist's Ronan Garrec placed second in 1:49.95, while Simon Fraser's Niels Muntzenburger took third in 1:50.26.

Fresno's Brooke Turner cruised in the women's 1650 free with a winning time of 17:21.07. Cal Baptist's Stefanie Olson touched a distant second in 17:35.88, while Simon Fraser's Suzanne Wuolle placed third in 17:40.29. SCAD's Alex Graudins followed with a 15:42.28 to win the men's 1650 free. Cal Baptist's Kevin Sellars earned second in 15:55.48, while Fresno's Woogie Yada placed third in 15:57.74.

Cal Baptist's Lara Pease snatched the women's 200 back title in 2:05.02. Simon Fraser's Emma West-Sadler (2:06.65) and SCAD's Mary Ashley Krogh (2:07.77) rounded out the top three. Fresno's Erik Thiessen touched out Cal Baptist's Vicente Andrade, 1:47.61 to 1:47.78, in the men's 200 back. Concordia's Craig Brazier placed third in 1:48.49.

Fresno's Cheyenne Coffman touched first in the women's 100 free with a 50.94. Illinois Tech's Victoria Masney snared second in 51.54, while Simon Fraser's Addie Kolybaba finished third in 51.64. Simon Fraser's David Hibberd won the men's 100 free in 44.56. Fresno's Carl Weigley finished second in 45.22, while Illinois Tech's Max Ramminger took third in 45.24.

Biola's April Smith ripped off a 2:21.66 to win the women's 200 breast, while Concordia's Alison Berrien claimed second in 2:22.33. SCAD's Liz Roberts touched third in 2:23.40. Lindenwood's Sergio Molina earned the men's 200 breast title in 2:00.69. SCAD's Michael Lawrence (2:02.64) and Thomas Gibson (2:02.94) rounded out the top three.

Fresno's Stacy Carter, Turner, Megan Smith and Coffmann won the women's 400 free relay in 3:28.78, while Concordia's Eric Anderssen, Conner Luster, Craig Brazier and Mike Perry topped the men's 400 free relay in 3:01.52.
