Mountain West Honors Weekly Performers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, December 7. UTAH senior Amber Walter was selected as the Mountain West Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week after setting a MWC record in the 50 freestyle. Ute Andrew Jones was named MWC Men's Diver of the Week after his performance at the Ohio State Invitational.

Walter, from Kalispell, Mont., set a Utah and MWC record in the 50 freestyle with a swim of 22.59 at the Ohio State Invitational last weekend, winning the event with an NCAA Championship qualifying time. She broke the old mark of 22.78 set by Utah All-American Heidi Hausknecht in 2001. Walter then won the 100 free with a meet record time of 50.63 after swimming an MWC season best time of 50.40 in the prelims. She was also on the winning 200 free relay team that posted an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:33.21 and placed second in the 400 medley relay in a 3:46.38 clocking. She also helped the winning 400 free relay set a meet record in 3:23.81 before finishing second in the 100 breast in 1:03.52, which is also an NCAA B provisional qualifying time. Finally, she helped the 200 medley relay finish second in 1:43.82.

Jones, a native of Salt Lake City, earned his third diver of the week honor for the season and his career by setting a Utah record in the platform 10 meter diving event at the Ohio State Invitational last weekend. His score of 269.40 set the new mark for the Utes.
