Roberts has been integrating open water racing into pool swimming for many years, getting his athletes into a diverse range of training styles. It turned one of his past swimmers, Emily Brunemann, into a star open water swimmer, and Roberts says her success has inspired the current crop of Clippers. Roberts also talks about the intense summer league swimming environment in his region of the country, and the healthy rivalry with Cincinnati Marlins across the Ohio River.
