More FINA Masters World Records News From SPMA Invite

COMMERCE, California, December 11. YESTERDAY, we told the tale of Laura Val claiming six FINA Masters World Record at the SPMA Short Course Championships this weekend at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center. We also wrote about Richard Burns, David Guthrie and Steve West also taking down three records each.

But, the meet featured even more records for FINA to add to its ledger.

Traci Granger, 55, was the only other solo record-setter as she turned in a winning time of 31.13 in the women’s 55-59 50 fly. That swim tied her with Val’s 2009 global mark in the event.

Meanwhile, a pair of relay records also tumbled.

UCLA Bruins’ foursome of Hibben, Ciraulo, Dodd and Stebbins raced to a 9:29.43 in the women’s 200-239 800 free relay. That swim obliterated the previous mark of 9:40.96 set by the USA-based Gold Coast Masters in 2009.

Meanwhile, Las Vegas Masters’ quarter of C. Counts, Wegner, Gaines and G. Counts checked in with a 3:31.30 in the men’s 120-159 400 free relay. That performance clipped the 3:31.87 set by Longhorn Aquatics in 2009.
