Morales Named Head Coach of San Jose State Women’s Swimming

Pablo Morales has made a career of finding ways to achieve greatness during his swimming career, which included winning 11 individual NCAA titles at Stanford.

After winning a gold and two silver medals at the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles and then suffering bitter disappointment in failing to make the 1988 Olympic team, Morales staged a brilliant comeback and won two golds at the ’92 Barcelona Games.

Now there’s a new challenge for Morales, who spent this past season as an assistant coach at Stanford. On Thursday, the former Bellarmine Prep star was introduced as the new women’s swim coach at San Jose State.

The program, which will offer scholarships for the first time next season, has been treading water in recent years–the team finished 10th in the Western Athletic Conference championships in February.

Morales will have the opportunity to take the women’s program from the bottom to the top.
