Moldova’s Alexei Sancov Posts 200 Free World Junior Record

Alexei Sancov of Moldova finished ahead of the competition in finals of the men’s 200 free at the 2017 European Junior Championships.

The 16-year-old delivered a final time of 1:47.00 to claim gold and edge past the previous World Junior Record of 1:47.10, set by the USA’s Maxime Rooney in August of 2015.

Comparable splits:

  • Sancov (July 2017) – 25.22, 27.42, 27.12, 27.24 = 1:47.00
  • Rooney (August 2015) – 24.83, 27.14, 27.49, 27.64 = 1:47.10

World Junior records can be set by anyone aged 18 or younger.
