LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas, October 20. AFTER two years living in the United States, South Korea native Minki Kang has announced that he’ll attend Missouri State University next fall.

Kang is primarily a distance freestyler who told Swimming World that he came to the United States with the hopes of becoming a better swimmer and gain a first-class education. He has the chops to help the Bears’ distance program right away, with a lifetime best 9:10.04 in the 1000-yard freestyle and 15:22.47 in the 1650-yard freestyle while representing the Arkansas Dolphins Swim Team. He also has talent in the 500 free with a lifetime best 4:27.31 and potential in the 400 IM with a 3:58.99 personal best.

Missouri State has a rising Division I program that sent two athletes to the 2014 NCAA championships, the first time the Bears had more than one representative at the meet in a season. Kang said he wants to reach those same heights.

“I choose Missouri State University because I felt that I’m already part of the team when I met the teammates on my recruiting trip” Kang said. “They always cheer each other, and they are the closest team I’ve ever seen. I have seen that they are getting bigger and faster the last few years and I believe that MSU could be top 15 in the NCAA the next few years. I want to be the next qualifier for the Olympics and a scorer at NCAAs after Paul Le and Uvis Kalnims. I’m looking forward to joining the team.”
