Miranda Tucker, Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or Win Again, SwimMAC Carolina Takes Team Title at Indianapolis Sectionals

INDIANAPOLIS – Miranda Tucker and Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or each won their third individual events of the meet, while SwimMAC Carolina took home the combined team trophy as the Indianapolis Sectionals meet came to a close Sunday night at the IUPUI Natatorium.

Livonia Community’s Miranda Tucker, who also won the 100 and 200 breast this weekend, swam away with her third title of the meet in the 200 IM, dominating the final heat with a 2:15.59. North Baltimore’s Mary Pelton grabbed second in 2:18.27, just under a second in front of SwimMAC Carolina’s Nora McCullagh (2:19.17).

In the men’s 200 IM, Grosse Pointe’s Jacob Montague made up nearly five seconds over the final 100 meters to chase down North Baltimore’s William Buese for the win, 2:06.33 to 2:06.49. Buese turned at 58.08 while Montague touched way back at 1:02.96 at the halfway point before Montague came roaring home with a 33.38 breast split to put himself back in contention. North Baltimore’s Samet Alkan swam a 2:07.85 for third.

North Baltimore’s Madison Runge staged another come-from-behind victory, this time in the women’s 1500 free. After trailing by as much as four seconds during the race, Runge reeled in Hopkins Mariner’s Erin Earley for the win, 17:00.13 to 17:00.50. Waves Bloomington’s Melissa Pish, who has already picked up a couple of top three finishes, was also in the mix, touching third in 17:01.62.

Indiana University’s Ethan Curl dropped 17 seconds from his seed time to take home the men’s 800 free title in 8:17.38. Penguin Aquatics’ Jared Graham finished just under six seconds later in 8:23.27, followed by Indiana University’s Timothy Martin in 8:25.31.

North Baltimore’s Mary Pelton made a quick turnaround from the 200 IM to the 100 free, taking first in the sprint free event with a 55.81. Boilermaker Aquatics’ Carly Mercer, the top seed after prelims, wound up second in finals with a 56.26, while SwimMAC Carolina’s Rebecca Postoll touched third in 56.68.

Aqua Swim Club’s Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or claimed the men’s 100 free title, adding to his wins in the 50 free and 100 fly earlier in the meet with a 50.93. Southern Michigan’s Cameron Craig finished right on his heels in 51.05, with New Trier’s Jonathan Grodecki in third at 51.14.

SwimMAC Carolina won the combined team title with 1,891 points, with North Baltimore (1,739 points) and Indiana University (786 points) in second and third. North Baltimore took home the men’s team title with 932 points, while SwimMAC Carolina garnered the women’s team trophy with 1,146 points.

Well we know Mary Pelton is Elizabeth’s younger sister and know it appears CierravRunge has a younger sister following in her footsteps too, wonder if Easop Lee is sister of last year’s NCAA D1 100 fly gold- medalist for Leland Stanford Jr. university? Now what’s her first name? Oh of course…Valerie!

Actually the 1500 wasn’t really a come-from-behind swim. Earley swam with morning heats. Runge lead for much of the race but Pish was closing fast and nearly ran her down. Looked more like Pish pushed Runge to beat Earley’s time from the morning.
