Minnesota Inks Five More for 2006-07

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. May 19. UNIVERSITY of Minnesota men’s swimming and diving head coach Dennis Dale announced today the addition of five student-athletes for the 2006-07 season. Michael Daup (Eagan, Minn), Kevin Ewald (Hartland, Wis.), Tyler Jepsen (Downers Grove, Ill.), Jacob Kittilstad (Thiensville, Wis.) and Robert Schaefer (Moorhead, Minn.), signed Acceptance of Admission forms to attend the U of M in 2006-07.

Daup, a senior at Eagan High School, was a finalist in the 500
freestyle for the last three years at the Minnesota State High School
League AA Championships. He is a NISCA All-American and was named a
USA Swimming Scholastic All-American in 2005. Daup’s best times are
4:36.80 in the 500 freestyle, 9:41.23 in the 1000 freestyle and
16:13.43 in the 1,650. He also competes for Blackline Aquatics.

Ewald, a senior at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wis., was the
2006 Wisconsin State champion in the 500 freestyle and runner-up in the
200 free. He is also a NISCA All-American. His best times are 1:42.34
in the 200 freestyle, 4:39.89 in the 500 freestyle and 9:45.70 in the
1,000. Ewald also competes for the Lake Country Swim Team.

Jepsen, a senior diver at Downers Grove South High School in Illinois,
finished 10th at the 2006 Illinois State Championships. He is a
three-time conference diving champion and was a sectional champion in
2004. He also earned varsity letters in soccer and tennis in high
school. Jepsen also competes for Windy City Diving and is coached by
Susan Bromberg.

Kittilstad, a senior at Homestead High School in Wisconsin, was the
2006 Wisconsin State champion in the 200 freestyle and placed fifth in
the 100 free. He is also a NISCA All-American and a USA Swimming
Scholastic All-American. His best times are 1:44.09 in the 200
freestyle and 47.63 in the 100. Kittilstad also competes for the
Schroeder YMCA.

Schaefer, a senior at Moorhead High School, was the 2006 runner-up in
the 100 breaststroke and placed third in the 200 individual medley at
the 2006 Minnesota State High School League AA Championships. His best
times are 57.37 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:09.67 in the 200 breast.
Schaefer also competes for the Moorhead Marlins club program.
