Minnesota Inks Carlson

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, November 15. UNIVERSITY of Minnesota men's swimming and diving head coach Dennis Dale announced today that Curt Carlson has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Minnesota. The Maple Grove, Minn., native was the 2006 Minnesota State Class AA champion in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle, and was one of the state's most highly-recruited swimmers.

"Curt was one of the top prospects across the country and we are thrilled that he will attend the University of Minnesota," Dale said. "He is an outstanding trainer and has a great work ethic. He is also an outstanding citizen."

A senior at Maple Grove High School, Carlson was one of the top swimmers in the nation as a junior in the 200 freestyle. He is a multiple NISCA High School All-American and a Scholastic All-American. His top times are 20.93 in the 50 free (short course yards), 45.52 in the 100 free and 1:39.46 in the 200 free. He won the state title as a junior in the 200 free in a Class AA record time of 1:39.46 and the 100 free in 45.52. As a sophomore, he placed third in the 50 free and fourth in the 100 free.

Carlson also competes for the Team Foxjet club program under head coach Anne Urschel. His coach at Maple Grove is Ron Jacobson. He chose Minnesota over Indiana and Ohio State. Carlson is the third signee for the 2007-08 season along with Michael Richards (Falcon Heights, Minn.) and Andrew Brown (Centennial, Colo.).
