100 free

The Wolverines kept on marching to the team title with another victory in the 100-yard free.

Siobhan Haughey threw down a 47.71 to touchout 50 free winner Li Zhesi of Ohio State (47.72), as both cleared the NCAA A cut and broke the pool record of 48.08 shared by Stacy Busack and Ali DeLoof.

With her third win, Haughey becomes the first Michigan swimmer to pick up a trio of individual titles since Kaitlyn Brady in 2006.

DeLoof, meanwhile, took third overall in 47.96. Indiana’s lone swimmer in the field, Holly Spears, finished eighth overall in 49.77.

Michigan pushed its lead to 1138-1009.5 against Indiana.  Ohio State (730), Minnesota (723.5) and Purdue (587.5) comprised the rest of the top five.

200 breast

Indiana’s Lilly King moved to seventh all time in the 200-yard breast, while teammate Miranda Tucker (2:06.52) finished second for the Hoosiers.

King clocked a sizzling time of 2:05.58.  It downed the meet record of 2:05.98 from Minnesota’s Haley Spencer in 2013, and eclipsed Tucker’s prelims pool mark of 2:07.63.

More importantly, King’s time jumped her to seventh all time.  Only Emma Reaney (2:04.06), Breeja Larson (2:04.48), Kierra Smith (2:04.56), Rebecca Soni (2:04.75), Caitlin Leverenz (2:04.76) and Laura Sogar (2:05.04) have finished faster.

Purdue’s Emily Fogle raced her way into third in 2:08.07, while Michigan’s Emily Kopas (2:09.48) and Carolyn McCann (2:12.22) collected some important team points with fifth and seventh-place efforts.

Michigan remained in the lead, 1217-1069.5, against Indiana.  Ohio State (778), Minnesota (757.5) and Purdue (617.5) held steady in the top five.
