Michigan Upper Peninsula High School Championships

HOUGHTON, Michigan, February 24. THE Michigan Upper Peninsula High School Championships took place Friday, February 18 and Saturday, February 19 at Houghton High School.

Girls Results
Marquette dominated the meet, winning three individual events and all three relays. Kinsey Vear won the 100 fly (1:06.38), Tara Dowling took the 500 free (5:38.29), and Annie Bengry finished first in the 100 breast (1:15.41). The team of Kali Kisro, Katy Beckstrom, Bengry, and Dowling won the 200 medley relay (2:02.85), while Linnea Eiben, Bengry, Alex Bott, and Vear beat the field in the 200 free relay (1:51.58). Vear, Eiben, Bott, and Dowling won the 400 free relay in 3:59.62.

Grimn's Sarah Tresedder doubled with wins in the 50 free (25.63) and 100 back (1:06.76). Rudyard's Carrie Berkompas finished first in the 200 free (2:05.86), while Jeffers' Olivia Rouleau won the 200 IM (2:24.90). Houghton's Jill Toorongian touched ahead of the pack in the 100 free (1:01.33), and Manistique's Emily Aldrich claimed the one meter diving title with 141.50 points.

Marquette cruised to first place overall with 354.5 points, followed by Houghton (204.5) and Grimn (149).

Boys Results
Kingsford's Alec Thurston and Sault's Colin MacQuarrie both doubled with wins in two events each. First, Thurston won 200 (1:50.15) and 500 free (5:02.89). Teammate Josh Johnson won the 100 free (51.54), and the duo joined Kyle Vuorinen and Luke Hartwig to win the 400 free relay in 3:31.35. MacQuarrie, meanwhile, placed first in the 200 IM (2:09.73) and 100 free (55.30). Nick Donaldson, another Sault swimmer, won the 50 free (23.34), and Joshua Messer, Kyle Lester, MacQuarrie, and Donaldson combined to win the 200 medley relay in 1:45.96.

The host Houghton team won the meet, claiming two individual wins and one relay title. Jared Cadwell won the 100 back (59.30), and Stuart Rosemurgy took the 100 breast (1:05.83). Their teammates Daniel Shonnard, Andrey Sergeyev, PJ Sproule, and James DeClerck won the 200 free relay in 1:39.49.

Houghton won overall with 340 points, while Sault scored 268 to out-distance themselves from third-place Kingsford (208).
