Michael Phelps Is Back in the Pool

BALTIMORE, Maryland, January 17. THE headline is not a joke. Michael Phelps returned to the Meadowbrook Aquatic Center Wednesday for a swimming workout with the senior group at North Baltimore Aquatic Club.

Coach Bob Bowman posted a photo of the Olympic legend participating in a kicking set on his Twitter account, which will likely prompt many swimming fans to resurrect the “will he or won't he” debate about Phelps returning to competition for the 2016 Olympics.

But Phelps only completed 3,000 yards with the group, using the time to give his fellow North Baltimore teammates some technique tips. Bowman may have squashed any talk of Wednesday's swim as the start of a comeback by using the hashtag “#fitnessswimming.”

In another Tweet, however, Bowman seemed to wonder if Wednesday's swim just might be something more than splashing around:

Wednesday was likely Phelps' first time in the pool since winning six medals at the London Olympics, as he has been putting focus on his golf game. In a matter of weeks, the series “The Haney Project” will debut a new season on the Golf Channel showing Phelps traveling the world with golf great Hank Haney, playing at some of the best courses in the world.
