Michael Phelps Doesn’t Know How to Swim 200 Breast – Video Interview

After posting the fastest time in the world this year in each of his three events in successive nights at U.S. Nationals in San Antonio, Michael Phelps returned to the pool to swim in arguably his worst event, the 200 breast. Swimming from lane one in the second of three circle-seeded heats, Phelps finished second behind Scotland’s Craig Benson in 2:12.68, good for the sixth best qualifying time into the final.

After the race, Phelps explained that he had no real race plan since he hardly ever competes in the event, and he then assessed his splits and his final time in the race. Phelps discussed a deal he made with his coach, Bob Bowman about whether or not he would compete in the event again this evening or scratch based on his result in the morning.

Uh he did a 2:11 in finals which is 4 secs from the WR. I think he’s being silly to say he’s not a breaststroker.

Considering my daughter is a zones/sectionals level swimmer who, as a Freshman, felt awkward teaching the upperclassmen on her HS swim team (noobs who didn’t know how to flip turn), I’m pretty sure he could teach her a thing or two. But, you know, if he’s that uncertain about his “worst” stroke…….?

Clement, he was asked what he could have done as a breaststroker. Surprisingly, he didn’t believe very much in himself there. I think he could beat the best breaststrokers in the world if he just changed his mind about the stroke. He’s amazing at it.

How can he talk like that? He’s Michael phelps but he doesn’t think he could go under 2:10? Lmao, he’s as good as the best breaststroker in the USA, I saw the splits on his 2:11 in finals! He could be an Olympic breaststroker …
