Michael Andrew, Madison Haschemeyer Earn Title Trifectas at NASA Showcase Classic

CLEARWATER, Florida, April 3. MICHAEL Andrew and Madison Haschemeyer both won a trio of titles to open up competition at the NASA Showcase Classic in Clearwater, Fla.

Cassie Kalisz, the next in line of the Kalisz clan from North Baltimore that includes Courtney, Chase and Connor already who have made noise out of NBAC, topped the 13-year-old 200-yard back finale with a 2:03.18. Regan Barney earned the 14-year-old 200-yard back crown in 1:58.55. Michael Andrew, who made a big name for himself as a 12-and-under with National Age Group records, posted a swift 1:50.91 to win the 13-yard-old 200-yard back. He has some more time to make up for the 13-14 NAG in the event currently held by Benjamin Ho with a 1:45.73 from earlier this year. Matthew Hirschberger, who did notch a NAG in the 13-14 1000-yard free at the NCSA Junior Nationals last month, won the 14-year-old 200-yard back title in 1:51.46.

Joelle Vereb raced home in 31.08 for the 13-year-old 50-yard breast title, while Laurynn Harvard snared the 14-year-old 50-yard breast crown in 31.05. Andrew won another event, this time with a 26.49 in the 13-year-old 50-yard breast. Grant House picked up the 14-year-old 50-yard breast crown in 27.84.

Vereb also won the 13-year-old 50-yard free in 24.20, while Casey Fanz touched a second off Dara Torres' epic 1982 13-14 NAG of 22.44 with a 23.44 to win the 14-year-old 50-yard free. Andrew clinched his third title of the night with a 20.87 in the 13-year-old 50-yard free, off Ryan Hoffer's 13-14 NAG of 20.02 from sectionals last month. House snagged his second 14-year-old title of the night with a 21.53 in the 50-yard free.

Linda Licari earned the girls 11 year old 200-yard back crown in 2:09.82, while Madison Haschemeyer touched in 2:06.67 to clinch the 12 year old 200-yard back title. Nicholas Vance raced to a 2:06.52 for the 11 year old 200-yard back title for the boys, while Shane Blinkman picked up the 12 year old 200-yard back title in 2:01.56 with Cole Junker finishing just behind in 2:01.96.

Licari won her second title of the day with a 25.77 touchout triumph ahead of Madeline Competello (25.87) in the 11-year-old 50-yard free. Haschemeyer also doubled with a 24.81 in the 12-year-old 50-yard free. John Rotatori topped the 11-year-old 50-yard free for the boys with a 24.63, while Stogner snared the 12-year-old 50-yard free crown in 23.00.

Giovanna Cappabianca raced to a 31.99 to win the girls 11-year-old 50-yard breast. Meanwhile, Katrina Marty touched in 31.90 to win the 12-year-old 50-yard breast. Lance Rainer cruised to a 30.87 to win the 11-year-old 50-yard breast for the boys, while Colton Stogner clocked a 28.78 to down Blinkman (28.87) for the 12-year-old 50-yard breast crown.

Gabriela Pierobon Mays won the girls 10 yard old 50-yard back with a 29.50, while Sira Limbu claimed the 9 year old 50-yard back in 33.25. Christopher Hardt turned in a 28.84 for the boys 10 year old 50-yard back with a 28.84, that's just a second off Destin Lasco's 10-and-under NAG of 27.96 from last year. Alexander Ye topped the 9 year old 50-yard back with a 32.08.

Pierobon Mays doubled up with a 1:16.07 to win the 10-year-old 100-yard breast for the girls. Caroline Summerlin posted a 1:23.23 for the 9-year-old 100-yard breast girls crown. Hardt also clinched his second title with a 1:11.63 in the 10-year-old 100-yard breast, while John Bradshaw claimed the 9-year-old 100-yard breast in 1:19.57.

Kaylyn Schoof turned in a 5:26.38 for the girls 10-year-old 500-yard free victory, while Summerlin doubled with a 6:13.59 for the 9-year-old 500-yard free win. Yugo Tsukikawa clocked a 5:31.13 to run away with the 10-year-old 500-yard free win. Thomas Fitchett stopped the clock in 6:00.62 for the 9-and-under 500-yard free win as an eight year old.

Christina Cianciolo claimed the 11-year-old 1000 free title in 10:50.63 for the girls, while Haschemeyer earned another title with a 10:42.72 in the 12-year-old 1000-yard free. Vance raced to a 10:35.53 for the boys 11-year-old 1000 free crown with William Kamps taking the 12-year-old 1000 free title in 10:18.04.
