Miami-Ohio vs. Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio, November 6. THE University of Toledo swimming and diving team tallied one-two-three finishes in five events, and the Rockets cruised to a 174-124 dual meet win over visiting Miami (Ohio) University, the defending MAC Champions.

"It's exciting because everyone swam so well," said junior co-captain Jacy Dyer (Lebanon, PA), who picked up wins in the 500 and 1000 freestyle. "We didn't just win the events, but everyone had great times."

The win marked the second time in three years that Toledo (7-1, 3-0 MAC) defeated the RedHawks after dropping nine in a row in the series. The Rockets have also now won 14 of their last 15 home dual meets and 10 of its past 11 duals overall.

"Jacy and [freshman] Carly Harter were outstanding today, as was [freshman] Kenzie Bagan," said head coach Lars Jorgensen. "Our freshmen just keep on getting better through the fall. Miami is a very good team and this is a quality win for us."

The Rockets bolted out to an early lead after winning the first four events. The 400 medley relay team of senior Ashley Cusack (Willow Spring, IL), sophomore Laura Lindsay (Uniontown, OH), junior Amanda Thompson (Monroe, MI) and Harter took first in a time of 3:48.12, and Toledo followed with a one-two-three finish in the 1000 free, led by Dyer in 10:09.27. Toledo extended its lead following another one-two-three showing in the 200 free, as Harter hit the wall first in 1:52.09. Cusack then followed with a first-place showing in the 100 back (57.22), besting Miami's Leah Thornton by .18 to claim the win and put the Rockets in front 55-19.

The Rockets continued their strong showing through the middle part of the meet. After Lindsay finished second in the 100 breaststroke, Bagan led yet another one-two-three effort in the 200 fly, as she touched the wall in 2:03.78. Senior Katie White (Leland, MI) and sophomore Jacque Fate (Fremont, OH) then followed by going one-two in the 50 free. Harter claimed her second win of the evening in the 100 free, finishing in 52.36, with White and junior Laura Heckroth (Columbus, IN) earning second and third-place points. Dyer then sparked a one-through-four showing in the 500 free, as she placed first in 4:59.73.

Toledo closed out the meet as Harter (2:07.74), Bagan (2:09.05) and junior Kelsey Atchison (Silver Lake, OH) went one-two-three in the 200 IM, and the 400 free relay team of White, senior Caitlin Cormack (Bedford, OH), Dyer and Heckroth won in a time of 3:30.68.

The weekend doesn't end for the Rockets, though, who have another tough meet at 1 p.m. Saturday when Ohio University visits the Student Rec Center Pool. Ohio finished second in the MAC last year and has won 10 MAC titles since 1981, second only to Miami's 18.

"We knew we had to come in to this weekend with a good attitude, and we're very excited about getting it started the right way," Harter said. "Tomorrow is going to be very tough for us," Jorgensen added. "To come back so quickly and compete will be a tough challenge for us."
