Miami-Ohio vs. Ball State

MUNCIE, Indiana, February 9. MIAMI University's men's swimming and diving team defeated Ball State in its final tune up before heading to the MAC/Sun Belt Championships, 163-136, Saturday afternoon. Miami earned nine first place finishes in the win.

Miami earned first-place finishes in three of the five freestyle events beginning with senior Paul Ricard's top time of 48.30 in the 100 freestyle. Freshman Jason Hass narrowly defeated Ball State's Mark Augustyn in the 200 freestyle, posting a time of 1:45.93. Sophomore Dave Brown earned points with second place finishes in the 50 freestyle and the 1000 freestyle, while junior Scott DuCharme notched a first-place victory in the 1000 freestyle (9:55.73) and a second-place result in the 500 freestyle.

Freshman Tommy Janszen led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 backstroke, with a time of 54.50, but the Cardinals took two first place finishes in the 200 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, before senior Blake Norman took the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.78. Junior Nick DuPuis easily took first place in the 200 butterfly, defeating the field by more than four seconds.

To round out the meet, junior diver Chris Heaton and freshman diver Ian Ballard finished 1-2, respectively, in both the one-meter and three-meter dives. Heaton registered scores of 333.22 in the one-meter dive and 368.02 in the three-meter dive, while Ballard notched scores of 263.47 and 300.68 in the one and three-meter dives, respectively.

Miami begins preparation for the MAC/Sun Belt Championships, which is being held in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 28-29.
