CORAL GABLES, FL. January 15. UNIVERSITY of Miami divers Miguel Velazquez and Jenna Dreyer were named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s and Women’s Performers of the Week, respectively, for the week ending January 10th, it was announced Monday afternoon.
Velazquez, a senior, turned in NCAA Zone qualifying scores in the platform event (530.75), three-meter event (601.65) and in the one-meter event (329.40) at the Georgia Diving Invitational. The Mexico City, Mexico native placed first in the three-meter competition and second on the one-meter board. He went on to capture first-place in the three-meter event at the Matt Gribble Invitational Friday with a score of 350.45, while placing third on the one-meter board with a mark of 318.35.
Dreyer, a freshman from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, recorded six first-place finishes in three separate meets this week. She posted NCAA Zone qualifying times of 292.90 in the one-meter event, 481.60 in the three-meter event and 377.00 in the platform event. She then returned home to win both the one-meter and three-meter events at the Matt Gribble Invitational.
The University of Miami swimming and diving team returns to action when they travel cross-town to face rival Florida International Saturday, January 22nd at 11:00 a.m.
